“We spend our lives inside the virtual environment of digital platforms - why should a faceless, graceless, styleless nerd or a greedy hog of a corporate twat deny us simplicity, beauty, grace, fun, sexiness, delight, imagination and creative energy in our digital lives? And why should Apple be the only company that sees that? Why don’t the other bastards GET IT??”—Stephen Fry

"LucasArts announced Tuesday that its next-generation action adventure, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, will be arriving on the Nintendo Wii platform, in addition to its already revealed PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.” Sweet! Almost a pity I just spent 80% of my Wii-buying budget on the nano. Almost.
"You have five pirates, ranked from 5 to 1 in descending order. The top pirate has the right to propose how 100 gold coins should be divided among them. But the others get to vote on his plan, and if fewer than half agree with him, he gets killed. How should he allocate the gold in order to maximize his share but live to enjoy it? (Hint: One pirate ends up with 98 percent of the gold.)”
“But I design interfaces so I’m supposed to know about this stuff. That’s the rational premise behind my spending hours of billable time adjusting my Facebook preferences. The real reason, of course, for all this stuff, is that it provides a way to blow off work you should be doing, while creating the illusion that you are achieving something. At least in most offices, you can’t masturbate at your desk. But you can tweet.”—Facebook Considered Harmless

The only other important thing to be said about Fear & Loathing at this time is that it was fun to write, and that’s rare — for me, at least, because I’ve always considered writing the most hateful kind of work.
I suspect it’s a bit like fucking — which is fun only for amateurs. Old whores don’t do much giggling. Nothing is fun when you have to do it — over and over, again and again — or else you’ll be evicted, and that gets old. So it’s a rare goddamn trip for a locked-in, rent-paying writer to get into a gig that, even in retrospect, was a kinghell, highlife fucking from start to finish… and then to actually get paid for writing this kind of manic gibberish seems genuinely weird; like getting paid for kicking Agnew in the balls. So maybe there’s hope. Or maybe I’m going mad…
In a nation ruled by swine, all pigs are upward mobile…
"is the diet that man evolved on, the diet that is coded for in our genes". It consists of avoiding grains, beans, dairy, sugar while eating meat/chicken/fish, eggs, fruit, veggies, nuts and upping your intake of root veggies and organ meats like liver.
Hardware techies at Apple are regularly sent from California for intense two-week shifts to the city-sized FoxConn factory in Shenzhen, China where iPods are made and tested.
Internally at Apple this is known as “being sent to Mordor.”
“The average person can only hold seven or fewer numbers in their working memory at any given time, using vocal repetition as an aid. Using proper encoding, trained subjects can memorize all of the area codes in the United States within a 24-hour period… By encoding abstract data first as letters, then as nouns, one can accurately store and recall hundreds of items (images) both forwards and backwards.”—Savant School: How to Memorize 10,000 Numbers and More
“Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best games on the Nintendo Wii to date. The level of immersion, attention to detail, and perfect Wii control make this the premiere demonstration of just about every core tenet of the Wii’s design, and to put it on any other system would take away a lot of what makes the title unique and engaging. […] If you own a Wii, you need this game.”
iPhone was the top selling smart phone for July capturing 1.8% of the market. The two iPhone models outsold all smart phones in July, including the Blackberry series, the entire Palm portfolio, and any individual Motorola, Nokia, Samsung or other smart phone model from a branded service provider.
"If a sufficient number of people bookmark an article on del.icio.us and quote a passage from it, I have a useful way to see which parts resonated with them. It’s like a human powered document summarization feature." (Quoting a quote about quoting. Meta.)
